How Oleoresins Are Made

 

The concept of extraction is simple. Take an organic material, mix it with a solvent which dissolves the required components, and then remove the solvent.

Within this basic framework, there are many variables. For example, the choice of solvent will determine which components will be dissolved. For many spices hexane provides a suitable profile, while types of alcohol are used for some (some gingers and vanilla), and even liquid carbon dioxide has specific applications.
